Description

Violet's journey to be heard celebrates the power of bold, quiet people.

Violet Blandin makes it a habit to blend in. At school, no one notices her, but in the kitchen, she can't be missed. When a hands-on lesson about measurement goes haywire, Violet finds she is the only one who can save celebrated Chef Delaclaire from an awful encounter with a very salty cookie.

Quiet Violet Finds Her Voice celebrates introverted kids and affirms that being quiet doesn't mean they have nothing to say. Violet's journey to be heard invites readers to see that quiet children's minds are as rich and bold as extroverted children's, and empowers introverted kids to find their voice and discover their passion.

A section for adults shares discussion questions and activities to use with children, and additional digital content includes a recipe for Violet's Confident Cookie.

Praise For…

“Gabrielle Nidus’s delightful story illustrates how baking combines math, chemistry, and community. As a professional baker I love watching all the elements in the kitchen come together through teamwork. And as a mom of three I adore how Violet’s story teaches kids to use their voices and share them with intelligence and kindness.”
— Elisa Strauss, owner of Confetti Cakes and author of The Confetti Cakes Cookbook and Confetti Cakes for Kids

“Like its protagonist, this sweet, poetic tale about a young girl who finds her voice is instantly lovable and wise. Quiet Violet is a talented chef overshadowed by her more boisterous classmates during a cooking unit. When her class has an opportunity to participate in a televised baking show, Violet rises above stage fright and shyness to guide her team towards inspiration. Seasoned author Gabrielle Nidus and illustrator Stephanie Dehennin bring to life an important social-emotional lesson, including helpful teaching pearls for families and caregivers of other Quiet Violets.”
— Ilana Braun, M.D., Associate Professor of Psychiatry, Harvard Medical School
