About the Author


Dr. James Smith is an automotive engineer. He holds a Master's degree in Automotive Engineering and a PhD in Thermo-fluids from the University of Bath. James bought his first classic motorbike whilst living in India - a 1951 Matchless G3LS model. Travelling to Hong Kong with the bike, James gained first-hand experience of diagnosing, repairing and re-assembling a failing electrical system. He has combined his experience with his engineering background to write this book. He also designs and manufactures modern electrical upgrades for classic bikes and runs MatchlessClueless.com
