Description

This book consists of a comprehensive analysis of Afrocentricity (Afrocentric) and African Centered Education and the value and viability of these paradigms as alternatives to the current Eurocentric educational system in the United States. It will seek to critically analyze the theoretical frameworks of Afrocentricity as pedagogy for children and youth. It will seek to answer the following questions: 1. Does Afrocentricity in children and youth shape their identity? 2. Does Afrocentricity in children and youth shape their academic achievement? 3. Does Afrocentricity in children and youth shape their development? With over 70% of African American children attending public schools, school-districts can no longer afford to authorize and implement curriculum and instruction that is not culturally relevant to their lives.

About the Author

The Chinue X Project, Inc., (TCXPI) is an educational resource center created by Cynthia D. Cornelius. It has be created as a personal and educational platform for those that seek Afrocentricity in their existence - to be centered and grounded in African culture, heritage, and history. As CEO and Founder, a native of Oakland, California, a recipient of a Bachelor's in Africana Studies, and a Master's in Equity and Social Justice in Education from San Francisco State University, I realized at an early age that my African Ness was not being represented in an equitable and justified manner through my educational instruction. As a witness to the disparities of the Oakland community, the activism of the Black Panther Party movement and the unrest over the death of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., I recognized early on that Africans in America were at a considerable disadvantage, mentally, economically, socially and educationally. While studying at Merritt College Community College, under the instruction of Professor Manu Ampim, my instruction would solidify my view that there was more to my existence than the Eurocentric worldview that I had received and conformed to courtesy of the Oakland Unified School District and the United States educational system, up to this point - the negative and degrading representation of her African ancestors in the textbooks, in the media, and in society. My realization, led me to extensive study and research of her African heritage that would uncover a proud and dignified heritage of African contributions to World civilization and the building of the Americas. For ALL that wish to transform their existence towards an Afrocentricity- an inclusive and factual existence that places African heritage at the center of their existence as well as World civilization. The Chinue X Project, Inc. (TCXPI) has been created and designed to offer an accurate and effective alternative to what Africans in America, and abroad, have been forced to assimilate and acclimate to.
