The guidance every AP® Literature student needs

The Norton Guide to AP® Literature, written by master teachers, provides all the instruction that students need to succeed in the course. The book unpacks and demystifies the skills central to the course, and offers four chapters on writing that walk students through the process of close reading and illustrate strategies for effective writing. Targeted, scaffolded lessons and two full practice AP® exams at the end of the book will make all AP® Literature students confident in their ability to succeed in the class and on the exam.

About the Author

Melissa Smith teaches at Lake Norman Charter High School in North Carolina and was the 2017 District Teacher of the Year. She is an AP® Reader, the creator of the #TeachLivingPoets hashtag and https://teachlivingpoets.com, and the co-author of Teach Living Poets (2021). A frequent presenter, she has facilitated conversations with poets on behalf of the National Council of Teachers of English for several years.

Susan Barber teaches AP® English Literature at Midtown High School in Atlanta, Georgia, and serves English teachers on the National Council of Teachers of English Secondary Steering Committee and on the Test Development Committee for AP® Literature. She is the editor of and frequent contributor to the online resource AP Lit Help and has been an AP® Reader for the past six years. Susan, along with Carlos Escobar, instructed thousands of students (and teachers) through the College Board’s AP® Live videos after schools went remote during the spring of 2020; she was also an instructor for AP® Daily that fall. She has offered training at NCTE, Georgia Council of Teachers of English, the Folger Shakespeare Library, and AP® Summer Institutes through the College Board, and frequently leads English Language Arts workshops across the country. She has been featured in the New York Times, the Washington Post, and Edutopia. Susan is most proud, however, of the work she does on a daily basis in E225; she never tires of the beauty and chaos of the classroom.
