Elizabeth Gilbert nació en Waterbury, Connecticut en 1969. Asistió a la Universidad de Nueva York, donde estudió Ciencias Políticas. Trabajó en publicaciones como Spin, GQ y The New York Times. Uno de sus artículos en GQ sobre sus experiencias como barista en Nueva York se convirtió en la inspiración de la película Coyote Ugly. Elizabeth también publicó Stern Men, The last american man y por supuesto, Eat, pray love.
